The difference between an ordinary window and one treated with 3M Shatter-Resistant Film was demonstrated conclusively during the British Home Office Trials. These tests were conducted on behalf of the Northern Ireland Government.

In explosions of a high blast pressure (25 p.s.i.) treated glass may leave its frame and travel a short distance into the room. But the particles are held together by the film, reducing the risk of injury. Untreated glass exposed to that pressure fragmented severely. The velocity of those particles has been measured at 150 feet per second.
